Travel up GA-400 and you will discover North Fulton County, an extremely high-growth area offering a family-oriented, upper-scale environment. One of the two main cities in North Fulton County is Roswell, the sixth largest city in Georgia, and it has been consistently named by national pollsters as one of the best places in the country to live. Its historic past has been preserved and is celebrated in an annual festival. Self-guided tours through the historic mansions and churches of the Civil War era are quite popular. Roswell's award-winning parks and recreation department operates extensive youth and adult athletic leagues. Parks, playgrounds and tennis courts can be found throughout the city. Mountain Park, a small nature preserve just outside of Roswell, is also part of North Fulton. Just north of Roswell is the second main city in North Fulton; the city of Alpharetta, where a small town atmosphere meets big city growth. This area was once known as a sleepy country town where horse farms dotted the landscape and the Alpha Drug Store's soda shop was the place to be. In less than a decade, Alpharetta has exploded into one of the most desirable addresses in Atlanta. Roads through town have been expanded to accommodate the growth, and new schools open each year. Yet Main Street remains very much the same. City Hall, First Baptist, First Methodist, Alpha Drugs & Dockery's Soda Shoppe all still bring a cohesive, hometown feel to the community.
